Lines & Wrinkle Treatments
Clinical management of rhytides and age-related skin laxity
Rhytides (lines and wrinkles) develop through progressive dermal atrophy, collagen degradation and elastin fragmentation, influenced by intrinsic ageing, cumulative UV exposure, genetic predisposition and lifestyle factors. At Berkshire Aesthetics, our doctor-led assessment identifies the specific mechanisms contributing to each patient's presentation before formulating an individualised treatment protocol.
Aetiology & Contributing Factors
- Natural decline in collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production with age
- Repeated facial muscle movements creating dynamic lines (e.g. frown lines, crow's feet)
- Cumulative sun exposure and UV damage breaking down skin structure
- Loss of facial volume and fat pad redistribution with ageing
- Smoking, poor diet and other lifestyle factors accelerating skin ageing
- Genetic predisposition influencing the rate and pattern of ageing
- Environmental factors including pollution and dehydration
Clinical Presentation
- Fine lines around the eyes (crow's feet), forehead and between the brows
- Deeper creases such as nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth lines) and marionette lines
- Forehead lines and frown lines that are visible at rest
- Loss of skin smoothness and firmness
- Crepey or thinning skin, particularly around the eyes, neck and décolletage
Evidence-Based Treatment Modalities
Treatment selection is individualised following clinical assessment, taking into account disease severity, Fitzpatrick skin type, medical history and patient goals.
Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections use a prescription medicine to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles, softening dynamic lines such as frown lines, crow's feet and forehead creases. Results typically last 3–4 months.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers restore lost volume and smooth static lines such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. They can also improve facial contour and support areas where volume loss contributes to an aged appearance.
Profhilo
Profhilo improves overall skin quality by boosting hydration, elasticity and firmness. It addresses fine lines and crepey texture without adding volume, making it ideal for patients seeking a skin-quality improvement.
SkinVive
SkinVive is a micro-droplet injectable that improves skin smoothness and hydration from within. It is particularly effective for fine lines and overall skin quality enhancement in the cheeks and lower face.
Morpheus8
Morpheus8 RF microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin remodelling to tighten skin and improve texture. It is effective for fine lines, skin laxity and overall rejuvenation of the face, neck and jawline.
Ultherapy
Ultherapy uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production at deeper tissue levels, providing a non-invasive lifting and tightening effect for the face, neck and décolletage.
Chemical Peels
Medical-grade chemical peels remove damaged surface skin to reveal smoother, more even skin beneath. They can improve fine lines, sun damage and overall skin texture as part of a rejuvenation plan.
Why we start with a consultation
Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
During your consultation, Dr Langdon will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate.
