Volume Loss Treatments
Medical management of age-related facial volume atrophy
Facial volume deficit is a progressive consequence of age-related lipoatrophy, bony resorption and loss of structural collagen in key anatomical compartments. At Berkshire Aesthetics, our doctor-led assessment maps volumetric changes across the facial thirds before recommending a precise, layered restoration strategy using evidence-based injectable and biostimulatory modalities.
Aetiology & Contributing Factors
- Age-related loss of subcutaneous fat in the face
- Bone resorption and changes in facial skeletal structure with ageing
- Decline in collagen and elastin production
- Redistribution and descent of facial fat pads
- Weight loss, particularly rapid or significant weight reduction
- Genetic factors influencing the rate and pattern of facial ageing
- Lifestyle factors including sun exposure, smoking and poor nutrition
Clinical Presentation
- Hollowing in the temples, cheeks or under-eye area
- Deepening of nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth lines) and marionette lines
- A gaunt, tired or aged appearance
- Loss of definition in the jawline and chin
- Thinning lips or loss of lip border definition
- Skin laxity or sagging, particularly in the mid-face and lower face
Evidence-Based Treatment Modalities
Treatment selection is individualised following clinical assessment, taking into account disease severity, Fitzpatrick skin type, medical history and patient goals.
Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to restore lost volume, improve facial contours and soften deep lines. Different filler types are selected based on the area being treated — from lifting and volumising products for the cheeks to softer formulations for fine lines and lips.
Profhilo
Profhilo is a skin-quality treatment that improves hydration, elasticity and firmness without adding volume. It is ideal for patients with early volume loss where improving skin quality provides a more natural result than adding filler.
SkinVive
SkinVive micro-droplet injections improve skin smoothness and hydration from within. It complements volumising treatments by enhancing overall skin quality and can soften the appearance of fine lines.
Why we start with a consultation
Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
During your consultation, Dr Langdon will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate.
All bookings are subject to our Booking Conditions.
