Why we start with a consultation
Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.
During your consultation, Dr Langdon will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate.
All bookings are subject to our Booking Conditions.

Clinical overview
Dermalux Triwave MD delivers specific wavelengths of light energy to the skin to stimulate cellular processes at different depths. Blue light (415nm) targets acne-causing bacteria and helps regulate oil production. Red light (633nm) stimulates collagen production and reduces inflammation. Near-infrared light (830nm) penetrates deeper to accelerate healing, reduce pain and support tissue repair. The wavelengths can be used individually or in combination depending on your skin concern. Treatment is entirely non-invasive, painless and requires no anaesthetic. There are no side effects and no downtime, making Dermalux suitable as a standalone treatment or as a complement to other procedures to enhance healing and results. We use Dermalux selectively for patients whose skin concerns are appropriate for phototherapy. Suitability is assessed during consultation, and we will always be honest about whether LED therapy alone will address your concerns or whether a different or combination approach would be more effective.
Key Benefits
- Three clinically proven wavelengths targeting different skin concerns at different depths
- Completely painless with no anaesthetic required
- No downtime and no side effects — return to normal activities immediately
- Effective as a standalone treatment or to enhance healing after other procedures
- Suitable for a wide range of skin types and conditions including sensitive and reactive skin
Suitable For
- Active acne or acne-prone skin where bacterial reduction and oil regulation are goals
- Rosacea, redness or inflammatory skin conditions responsive to phototherapy
- Early signs of ageing where collagen stimulation and skin rejuvenation are desired
- Post-procedure healing — to accelerate recovery after treatments such as Morpheus8, chemical peels or laser
- Patients who want a gentle, non-invasive treatment with no downtime
Not Suitable For
- Patients with photosensitive conditions or taking photosensitising medications (assessed during consultation)
- Active skin cancer in the treatment area
- Epilepsy triggered by light exposure
- Pregnancy (as a precaution, unless clinically indicated for wound healing)
- Those expecting dramatic structural change from LED therapy alone — realistic expectations are discussed
Final suitability is confirmed during a medical consultation and assessment.
When we don't recommend it
- If your concern requires structural change (volume, lift, contouring) — LED therapy improves skin quality but does not replace volumising or lifting treatments.
- If you have a photosensitive condition or are taking photosensitising medication — we will assess suitability and may recommend alternatives.
- If a single session is expected to produce dramatic results — LED therapy works cumulatively and a course is usually recommended for meaningful improvement.
- If your skin concern would respond more effectively to a different treatment — we will be honest about this and recommend accordingly.
- If there is active skin cancer in the area — treatment is not appropriate and we will refer you as needed.
What Happens During Treatment
- 1Skin assessment and discussion of your concerns to confirm suitability for LED phototherapy
- 2Your skin is cleansed and any makeup removed before treatment
- 3The Dermalux panel is positioned over the treatment area and the appropriate wavelength combination is selected
- 4You relax during the session — the light is painless and many patients find it calming
- 5Treatment takes 10–20 minutes; you can resume normal activities immediately afterwards
Downtime & Aftercare
- No downtime — return to normal activities, including applying makeup, immediately
- No side effects expected; the treatment is entirely non-invasive
- Continue with your regular skincare routine unless advised otherwise
- SPF protection is always recommended as part of good skin health
- If used post-procedure, follow the specific aftercare guidance for the primary treatment
Results Timeline
- Some patients notice an immediate improvement in skin radiance and calm after a single session.
- For cumulative concerns (acne, rosacea, ageing), a course of 3–8 sessions is typically recommended.
- Results build progressively with each session as cellular processes are stimulated.
How Long Results May Last
- •Maintenance sessions help sustain results, particularly for chronic conditions such as acne or rosacea.
- •The cumulative benefits of collagen stimulation and skin healing develop over the course of treatment.
- •Your clinician will recommend an appropriate maintenance schedule based on your skin and goals.
