Why we start with a consultation

Every treatment begins with a medical assessment. We need to understand your medical history, current health, skin condition and concerns before prescribing any procedure. This protects your safety and ensures the treatment is clinically appropriate for you.

During your consultation, Dr Langdon will explain what the treatment can realistically achieve, any risks specific to you, and whether an alternative might be more appropriate.

Doctor-led approach

Clinical overview

EMSella delivers focused electromagnetic energy to the pelvic floor, producing thousands of supramaximal contractions per session — far more than voluntary exercises alone can achieve. These contractions improve neuromuscular control and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. We use EMSella selectively for patients whose main concern is stress, urge or mixed urinary incontinence, or general pelvic floor weakness — including post-partum and post-menopausal presentations. It is not a substitute for medical investigation of incontinence where underlying pathology needs to be excluded. Suitability is confirmed during consultation, where we assess your symptoms, medical history and whether EMSella (or an alternative) is the safest and most appropriate option.

Key Benefits

  • Non-invasive pelvic floor strengthening — remain fully clothed throughout
  • Approximately 11,000 supramaximal contractions per session
  • No downtime — resume normal activities immediately
  • Can improve stress, urge and mixed urinary incontinence symptoms
  • Often complements guided pelvic floor exercises for broader benefit

Suitable For

  • Stress urinary incontinence (leakage on cough, sneeze or exercise)
  • Urge or mixed urinary incontinence
  • Post-partum or post-menopausal pelvic floor weakness
  • General pelvic floor conditioning
  • Those seeking a non-invasive approach with no downtime

Not Suitable For

  • Implanted electronic devices (e.g., pacemaker or defibrillator)
  • Metal implants in the treatment area
  • Pregnancy
  • Active infections, bleeding disorders, or other conditions identified during consultation
  • Anyone who has not had underlying pathology excluded where clinically indicated

Final suitability is confirmed during a medical consultation and assessment.

When we don't recommend it

  • If you have an implanted pacemaker or defibrillator — electromagnetic energy is contraindicated with these devices.
  • If there are metal implants in the pelvic area — we cannot safely deliver treatment in these cases.
  • If symptoms suggest an underlying condition that needs medical investigation first — we will refer appropriately before considering EMSella.
  • If expectations are for a complete cure — outcomes vary and we set realistic expectations based on your baseline function.
  • During pregnancy — treatment is not performed during pregnancy.

  4. 4Intensity is adjusted to your comfort and tolerance during the session
  5. 5Post-session review and scheduling of subsequent sessions as part of your course
